The Beach Health Clinic is a 501©3 organization that was established in 1986 with the intent of providing the best free medical care to the uninsured residents of Virginia Beach. We are a volunteer staffed, private, non-profit clinic with a mission to provide basic medical services and prescription assistance to the uninsured, working poor families in the area. With an estimated 56,000 children and adults in our city without health insurance, we see first hand how many families struggle to meet ends meet.

As an organization, we are working hard to provide our patients with comprehensive medical care. In the past year alone, we have scheduled more than 10,000 patient visits for Virginia Beach residents who could not afford health insurance or who were not eligible for Medicaid, Medicare or other government sponsored healthcare coverage. We also provide patients with the medications they require and offer special programs such as the Obesity Clinic and diabetes management classes.

History

Established in 1986 by a group of concerned physicians, the Beach Health Clinic began in a tiny bungalow on Artic Avenue. An example of a true grassroots effort by a small but dedicated group of volunteers, the clinic sprouted with seed money from First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach and other civic and professional groups. In its first year, the clinic saw 42 patients.

In 1992, the clinic moved to the corner of 22nd Street and Pacific Avenue at the oceanfront. As more and more patients began to receive medical care, it became apparent that a new and larger facility was needed to keep pace with the demand for patient needs. Because of this, the Beach Health Clinic moved to its current location on Holland Road. Now located centrally in the city of Virginia Beach, the clinic is physically sound and geographically situated close to the working poor neighborhoods. Over 2,000 patients are seen per year with the help of 57 physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners – a far larger number than the original 42 patients in the earliest stages of the clinic. Since 1986, the Beach Health Clinic has become a vital heath care resource for those without insurance in our community and hopes to continue to help those in need.
